El Paso is a city in Texas. According to a 2006 census, the city had a population of 609,415 people, and its metropolitan area had a population of 736,310. El Paso is composed of 250.5 square miles. El Paso can be divided into five areas: Central, East, Mission Valley, Northwest, and Northeast.
Public school education in El Paso is managed by three school districts: the El Paso Independent School District, Ysleta Independent School District, and Socorro Independent School District. There are also several colleges in the city including Texas A & M University, University of Texas at El Paso, and Park University.
El Paso’s economy is driven by education and the military. The city’s three school districts employ more than 19,000 people, making them the largest employers in the area. Fort Bliss, the site of the US Army’s Air Defense Center brings in more than $80 million in products annually. There are several El Paso museums which specialize in their own specific fields including art, history, and archaeology. The Abraham Chavez Theatre which is adjacent to the El Paso Convention & Performing Arts center adds to the city’s landscape. The Plaza Theatre is known for various Broadway productions and concerts throughout the year.
