Portland is split by the Willamette River, with the northwest and southwest parts on one side, and the northeast, south east, and north portland parts on the other. Downtown portland lies in the Southwest section. Recreational, cultural, education, governmental, business, and retail resources are heavily concentrated in this area. The Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall, Portland Art Museum, Cit Hall, and Portland State University are just a few of the wonders found in downtown Portland.
Portland is known as a major hub of American culture, especially that of the youth. There have been many movements originated from Portland; such as the Portland Zine Symposium; radical feminist and lesbian movements; and punk, hardcore, and anarchist movements.
There is only one major professional sports team in the city - the NBA's Trail Blazer. However, there are many minor leage teams that call Portland home, such as the Portland Timbers (soccer), Portland Naughty Dogs (paintball), and Portland Portland Winter Hawks (ice hockey).
