Cleveland, nicknamed the “Rock ‘n’ Roll Capital of the World” is the most populous city in Ohio. According to a 2000 census, the city had a total population of 478,403. It spans approximately 82.4 square miles.
Cleveland is a city immersed in diverse architecture. Most of the buildings downtown are neoclassical and clustered around an open mall, Public Square. Euclid Avenue which runs east from University Circle through Public Square is very elegant. There are many suburb areas in Cleveland including Lakewood, Parma, Bedford, and University Heights.For recreation and entertainment, residents can attend Playhouse Square Center for different types of performances throughout the year including speaking engagements, concerts, and Broadway musicals. The Cleveland Orchestra, one of the best orchestras in the world, is housed in the city. Two art museums, the Cleveland Museum of Art and Museum of Contemporary Art Cleveland, showcase work from various types of artists. Several festivals are also hosted in Cleveland annually including the Feast of the Assumption and Fashion Week Cleveland.The city’s economy is based hugely in the medical field. The largest employer in the city is the Cleveland Clinic. Cleveland is also starting to become a leader in biotechnology and fuel cell research thanks to Case Western Reserve University, the Cleveland Clinic, and University Hospital of Cleveland.
