Winston-Salem, also known as “The Twin City,” resides in Forsyth County and is the fourth largest city in the state.
The city has a population of about 222,682 in a 132.4 square mile area. The demographics for Winston-Salem are; 55.57% Caucasian; 37.10% African American; 0.31% Native American; 1.13% Asian; 4.29% Mixed.
The economy for Wilmington is mostly based upon the nanotech, biotech, high tech industries. The city was named as one of the most affluent cities in North Carolina. Some of the companies found in the city are; R.J. Reynolds; Krispy Kreme Doughnuts; Branch Banking and Trust Company; Hanes Brand and Lowes Foods Stores.
Winston-Salem is part of the area known as the Piedmont Triad, which is also centered on Greensboro and High Point. The city is the home to Wake Forrest University, an incredibly distinguished private University.
Winston-Salem has a living museum called the Old Salem Museums & Gardens based on the Moravian settlement founded in 1766. Wake Forrest University is home to the Reynolds House Museum of American Art and was built by the founder of the R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company. There are also a number of gardens like the Reynolds Gardens which is a 4-acre garden found on the R.J Reynolds country estate.
