The city of Fayetteville is located in Cumberland County, North Carolina. It is made up of a total of 60 square miles. According to a census taken in 2007, the city had a population of 203,000 people, making it the sixth-largest municipality in North Carolina.
Fayetteville’s crime rate is 64% higher than the national average. In fact, it was ranked as the 3
rd worst city in America to raise a family by BestLife Magazine. Although this may be a downside to those living in Fayetteville, the city’s downtown area has undergone numerous revitalization projects. These include the establishment of Fayetteville Linear Park, the Fayetteville Area Transportation Museum, and Fayetteville Festival Park. The public school system in Fayetteville is managed by Cumberland County Schools. There are also several private schools including St. Ann Catholic School, Northwood Temple Academy, Fayetteville Christian School, and Liberty Christian Academy. Colleges and universities in the area are Methodist University, Fayetteville State University, and Fayetteville Technical Community College. Public transportation is managed by the Fayetteville Area System of Transit (FAST) which is composed of two shuttle routes and ten bus routes. There is also an Amtrak station downtown. There are also multiple highways that drivers can use to maneuver throughout the city.
