Rochester is located in the Monroe County in northwestern New York State. The city is the third largest city within the state, with a population of roughly 207,000. Rochester also has the second largest economy behind New York City. The city sits in the center of a large metropolitan area stretching out into the surrounding counties such as Genesse County and Livingston County.
Recently, the city has been called the Flower City. The climate of Rochester enjoys a humid continental climate distinguished by four distinct seasons marked by typically snowy winters. Rochester can boast being named one of the top cities for a good quality of life by the Expansion Management Magazine. Rochester is also well known for its programs for the deaf and hearing impaired at the National Technical Institute for the Deaf.
Among the principal and most populous neighborhoods in Rochester include Brighton, Irondequoit and Greece to name a few. A popular place for young people and students is Park Avenue called the “Greenwich Village” of Rochester. The residents appreciate the various cafes, restaurants, shops and bars. However, the place for nightlife is in the East End for its theatres, restaurants and clubs. There are many universities in the city including University of Rochester and SUNY Brockport.
