The city has been on a comeback from the 60’s and 70’s when the economy had spiraled down. The largest development has been the Jamaica Station which houses not only the J and Z subway stations but also the Airtrain JFK which is a non-stop direct trip to John F. Kennedy Airport. The city is also following in the footsteps of major redevelopment that is currently taking places in neighboring Long Island, Flushing and Brooklyn.
The city of Jamaica is currently a hub for South American, Caribbean and East Indian Cultures. According to neighborhood analysts Bangladeshis are becoming the most rapidly growing group in the city.
The city of Jamaica is home to many local government buildings such as Queens Civil Court and Queens County Supreme Court. The city is also the home of the Central Library of the Queens Borough Public Library. The Aqueduct Racetrack is located in South Ozone Park but its address is officially listed as Jamaica.
