Shreveport is the 3rd largest city, and primary city of the 3rd largest metropolitan area of Louisiana. It is the seat of Caddo Parish. It has an estimated population of 200,145 inhabitants as of 2000. Shreveport was founded in 1836, and is currently the commercial and cultural centoer of Ark-La-Tex (where Arkansas, Louisiana, and Texas join).
There are many different neighborhoods and districts in the city. More than a half dozen homes in the Highlands neighborhood have been designated as historic. Inhabitants of these homes include a lieutenant governor of Louisiana, a Broadway direct, and the first major of Bossier City (a neighboring city).
Shreveport has prospered from state government tax incentives, which has created the 3rd largest film industry in the country, here in Louisiana. It is considered the Hollywood of the South, with facilities like sound stages and a computer-controlled outdoor wave pool. Many popular movies have been shot here, including The Guardian, Factory Girl, and W.
There is currently a minor league baseball team - the Shreveport Sports - in the city. Also, Shreveport and Bossier City share an af2 arena football team - the Bossier-Shreveport Battle Wings. A rugby team, an independent women's football league, and past CFL team Shreveport PIrates call the city their home.
Visual and performing arts have been huge in Shreveport. There are many classical, dance, art, music and exhibit venues to please any art fanatic. Tourism and events in the city are year round and draw in a considerable amount of tourist each year.
