Tampa, also called “The Cigar City,” resides in Hillsborough County Florida. Tampa is located in what is called the Tampa Bay Area which includes, St. Peterburg and Clearwater. In the summer, temperatures range from 74-90 degrees and in the winter they range from 50-70 degrees.
The city has a population of about 382,060 in a 170.6 square mile area. The demographics for Tampa are; 46.22% Caucasian; 26.07% African American; 0.38% Native American; 2.15% Asian; 4.17% Mixed.
The economy for Tampa is driven primarily by service, retail, insurance, finance and real estate. Some of the companies located in the city are; OSI Restaurant Partners; Wellcare Health Plans, Inc; TECO and Raymond James Financial.
The city is divided the following way; Downtown Tampa, New Tampa, West Tampa, East Tampa, North Tampa and South Tampa. Some of the better known areas of the city are; Ybor City, Forest Hills, Sulphur Springs, Seminole Heights, Tampa Heights, Beach Park, Hyde park, Tampa Palms and College Hills.
The very popular tourist destination Bush Gardens is found within the city area as well as Adventure Island, the Lowry Park Zoo and the Florida Aquarium. There are two major festivals that are thrown in the city every year, these are the Gasparilla Pirate Fest and Guavaween. Tampa is also home to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers NFL Franchise, the Tampa Bay Devil’s Baseball Franshise and the second NHL franchise in the state, the Tampa Bay Lightning.
