Pompano Beach is a coastal city in Florida. The Atlantic Ocean runs along its coast. The population of the city was estimated at 102,745 as of 2007. It is part of the Florida metropolitan area, and is located in Broward County. The city is currently in the middle of a redevelopment process, which is fixing up the neglected beachfront and promises to reinvigorate and revitalize the city.
The city was settled in 1900, but was incorporated as a town eight years later. The name comes from the Florida pompano, a fish native to the Atlantic coast. Pompano Beach experienced a population boom during the late 20th century as many people moved south.
