Orlando is a major "hot spot" of Florida, and is the county seat of Orange County. The metropolitan area that Orlando belongs to is the third largest in the state, behind Miami and Tampa. It has an estimated population of 227,907 inhabitants as of 2007. The University of Central Florida is located within Orlando. It is the second largest university in Florida, but has the 6th largest enrollment in the nation.
Within the city, as well as in the surrounding, there are many suburban areas to live in. This metro area is one of the fast growing areas in the entire United States. Areas like these are home to many single family homes. Within the city, major neighborhoods include College Park and Lake Eola Heights. Airports serving Orlando include Orlando International Airport and Orlando Executive Airport.
Orlando is a major tourist hub. People from all over the world come to Orlando for the Walt Disney World Resort and Theme Park, Seaworld, Universal Orlando resort, and Universal Studios. There is also much to do in the city; the area is home to a substantial theatre population, with more than ten performing arts theaters. The biggest venue is the the Bob Carr Performing Arts Center, built in 1926, which will be replaced in 2012 by the Dr. P. Phillips Orlando Performing Arts Center. There are also countless museums and educational centers located within the city.
Orlando is home to the Orlando Magic, an NBA pro basketball franchise. They play at the Amway Arena, opened in 1989, in downtown Orlando. This arena will be replaced by the Orlando Events Center around 2010.
