Wilmington, also known as “The Credit Card Capital of the World,” resides in New Castle County in Delaware and is located where the Christina River and Brandywine Creek merge. In the summer, temperatures range from 67-86 degrees and in the winter they range from 23-39 degrees.
The city has a population of about 72,664 in a 17 square mile area. The demographics for Wilmington are; 35.52% Caucasian; 56.43% African American; 0.25% Native American; 0.65% Asian; 5.16% Mixed.
The economy for Wilmington is mostly based upon the credit card industry for which it is the financial center. Chase Card Services, Bank of America, Barclays and ING Direct all call Wilmington home. Some other companies located within the city are American Life Insurance Company, JP Morgan Chase and Pepco Holdings.
Some of the neighborhoods found within the city limits are; Brandywine Hills, Center City, Forty Acres, Happy Valley, Eastlake and West Center City.
Wilmington has four state parks located in the city, these are Brandywine Park which includes Baynard Stadium and Brandywine Zoo; H. Fletcher Brown Park; Alapocas Woods Natural park and Rockford park. The Wilmington Blue Rockets are the local Minor League Baseball team and they play at Daniel S. Frawley Stadium.
